  【內容簡介 About the Exhibition】

This exhibition we call Origami Universe is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of contemporary origami art and applications to date. In it, 63 artists, designers, and scientists from 21 countries push the limits of what paper can become. They demonstrate how transforming materials by folding can enrich our daily lives. There are three sections to this exhibition: Representational, Geometrics, and Applications.

In the first section, representational origami shows a celebration of life, both real and imagined. Whether capturing human emotions, animal behaviors, or creatures of fantasy, these forms can be highly expressive in conveying the characteristics of the beings they represent. Some of these works capture the essence of a human figure with just a few creases, while others use hundreds of folds to depict every detail of a complex insect.

The second section, Geometrics, presents a series of sculptures, some flat, some voluminous, that are abstract and flowing, angular and intricate. Many of them show a strong connection to mathematics, exhibiting a high amount of symmetry through their repeated motifs. The works on view also feature curved folds, complex polyhedra, and elaborate textures.

The final section showcases applications of origami to create fashion, furniture, and scientific devices. Art and science come together to provide innovations in space exploration and medicine. Origami, which began as the creation of decorative and playful objects results in useful products for mankind.

The Chimei Museum is committed to providing inspirational exhibitions. I believe after you have seen the " Origami Universe:an exhibition of art and innovation through folding ", you will want a good collection of these artists works. This book is a rare origami book. If you like origami art, then you can not miss! Peerless classic, worthy of collection!

【策展人介紹 About the Curators】

Bernard Peyton

Wildlife biologist . Bernard Peyton obtained his bachelor's degree at Harvard University in 1972, and his doctorate at UC Berkeley in 1995. He specialized in wildlife research and habitat conservation, and is involved in other fields, such as community development, origami design, art therapy, and now curation. His experience in observing wildlife became his source of inspiration for creating origami.

Uyen NGUYEN

Uyen Nguyen is a mechanical engineer who uses her talents in art and fashion design. She is adept at modular origami and designing crease styles. She strives to create precise crease patterns, sometimes using LED lights to display the shadows made by crease marks. She also collaborated with designer Lea Freni to combine origami structure with fashion design, creating pieces of clothing that feature complex crease marks in the VOGEL 2016 Spring/Summer Collection. The collection turns origami crease patterns into a fashion element, and raises public interest in origami art.
